Masterminds As part of our strong commitment to education, KRGV CHANNEL 5 NEWS produces an academic quiz for high school students from across the Valley.
Teams face off on such subjects as history, math, English, current events, art and music. The competition takes place throughout the school year with teams meeting by a draw system. No differentiation is made to school size which tends to build the individual student's self-esteem.
In addition to donating the production time of the program and airtime, KRGV CHANNEL 5 NEWS donates $100 to each school each time they compete, for library replenishment so that all the students from that school can benefit. After 28 years of Masterminds, KRGV CHANNEL 5 NEWS has given out approximately $184,000 to high school libraries. KRGV CHANNEL 5 NEWS also gave each team member a patch to sew on their letterman jackets.
