MHS librarian to help select books for statewide high school reading program

This next year, if a high school student in the state likes a recommended book written by a Texas author, they can thank the librarian at Mission High School, Margie Longoria. She has been selected to serve on the Spirit of Texas Reading Committee. She will become a part of the process of selecting titles to encourage students in grades 9-12 to not only enjoy reading, but to also explore a variety of current, quality books written by Texas authors and illustrators. Longoria said she is thrilled to have been appointed to the committee, as she has wanted to serve on a Texas Library Association (TLA) Reading Committee for quite some time.
The Spirit of Texas Reading Program is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table (YART). The purpose of the list is to encourage youths to explore a variety of current, quality books from Texas authors and illustrators, develop critical reading skills, and to encourage greater interaction between Texas authors and illustrators, Texas librarians, and Texas youth.
