All-State Students MHS BAND

On Saturday, January 16th, Mission High School had three students earn a chair in the TMEA 6A All-State Band! This is the highest level of achievement for any music student in the state of Texas. 6A is unique in that any 5A or 6A band student is eligible to audition for a spot, making this band the toughest individual contest offered. MHS tied for the second most 6A All-State students among all 6A programs in Area G, stretching from Brownsville to San Antonio and Corpus Christi to Laredo. There are 72 schools in the area that had students entered into the contest, competing for a total of 50 individual chairs. Students in the TMEA All-State Bands represent the top 2% of band students in the state.
Not only did MHS have three students qualify, but all three students earned FIRST CHAIR on their instruments. This if the highest number of 1st chair students of any high school in the area. Three 6A All-State students represents a campus and district record at the highest level of competition available to band students. All three students also represent the first in school and district history to earn chairs on their respective instruments.
